What I am. What I’m not.

My name is George Angus, Made In Scotland, and a recent Graduate of BA (Hons) Game Design and Production at Abertay University.

I am a Game Designer, specialising in the top-level design of Mechanics, Narrative and Worldbuilding. I particularly have an interest in designing mechanics and gameplay loops for RPG systems, digital and tabletop, as well as the constant battle of gameplay balancing. These skills have also caused me to develop a deep interest and skills in level design. In short, creating consequence in a game through game mechanics is what I am truly inspired by.

I am confidently not a programmer, artist or sound designer, but I have a good understanding of the pipelines of these disciplines and how they relate and intertwine with my own.

At University, my Honours Project consisted of transposing World of Warcraft’s combat, class and ability systems onto the framework of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, as an exploration and reflection of creative practice. This is the most accurate representation of my skillset as a designer.

From the beginning

I have been designing my own games since I was a very young child - if a game had a level editor, you bet I would spend easily five times as much time interacting with that than the wider game itself. The joy of creating my own Pokémon, with their own stats and abilities, for me and my friends, and then testing them against each other is one of my earliest childhood memories.

Since then, I’ve fallen in love with roleplaying, whether that be through traditional RPGs or more sandbox, storytelling focused spaces. I have been running and creating homebrew mechanics and stories for D&D now for almost 10 years, and been creating rules and mechanics for other games for 10 more than that.

Whilst creating is a form of self gratification, I have realised that the most gratifying thing for me is to see my creations enjoyed by others, whether that is game mechanics, systems or stories.

Around 2019 I decided to pursue becoming a game designer professionally, and began my studies. At the same time, I also decided to begin studying Korean, self-taught. As of 2025, I am fluent in Korean and have graduated University in Game Design and Production - Whilst all is looking good so far, I understand that the mastering of either one will be a timeless effort.
